Third Space Photography
International Marketplace, Indianapolis
The International Marketplace is known for its diversity in restaurants and food, which is highlighted in this project to a degree; however, I also would like to pay special focus on the residents who live here who make up the area. The residents include American citizens and people from all around the globe. According to the International Marketplace Coalition, an organization that promotes economic development in the area, there are more than 100 languages spoken here. The unique composition of cultures creates a one-of-a-kind community.
This photo project started about four years ago to highlight everyday life in the International Marketplace in Indianapolis, Indiana. This project is a work in progress and is conducted on my own. It started as documenting 365 days within the community because there were often moments that I would have while out and about where I would think to myself “I should have taken a picture of that!” As I continue to take photos, I continue to learn more about the area and people, requiring me to revise and reevaluate how and what photos I take to reflect the true heart of the community (expect that this page will evolve over time). The goal of this project is to have a coagulated set of photos depicting the beauty and the people who live here.
